Advancing Education for Multilingual Learners
Professional Learning
As a thought partner, I serve to support State Departments of Education, Regional Service Centers, Teacher Preparation Programs, School Districts and PK-12 Schools' professional learning initiatives that improve outcomes for multilingual learners. I have over 20 years experience developing and delivering customized professional learning at the national, state and local levels both online and in person. I incorporate data-based decision making by thoughtfully examining a portfolio of data sources to include: Standardized Assessments (e.g, WIDA, NYSESLAT, ELPA, STARR, etc.), Progress Monitoring tools, Observation, Interview, and Student Work Samples. I incorporate key concepts from research and pedagogy such as: Sociocultural Theory, Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), Translanguaging, Culturally & Linguistically Responsive and Sustaining Practices, and WIDA Tools & Resources.
I specialize in supporting ALL teachers to become language teachers in serving multilingual learners across the general education setting and content areas. I have led administrator and elementary & secondary cohorts and institutes. I have developed Statewide professional learning for re-certification requirements in meeting the needs of multilingual learners as well as Statewide/Districtwide initiatives to reduce disproportionality of multilingual learners in special education through designing and implementing MTSS for MLs.
I am a thought partner first, gathering qualitative and quantitative data to make informed decisions that ensure buy in at all levels and are inclusive of all stakeholders. I value student, community and teacher voice and pride myself on being a practitioner researcher who can translate research and theory into practice in service of sustainable change.
Let's have a clarity call to see if my work is a good fit for your needs.
