Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
Professional Learning
In these current times, valuing diversity has become essential to student and teacher success. Whether its a new wave of refugee resettlement or long-standing tensions in a community across race, class, language, immigration status, or gender expression; I am here to support you as a thought partner.
I have a long track record of working with schools, districts and states cited by the Office of Civil Rights for compliance issues in meeting the needs of diverse learners with particular expertise in bilingual special education. I have unique training in special education, bilingual/ESL, teacher preparation and adult learning that uniquely situate me to address statewide, districtwide and/or schoolwide models of change. I have been trained in theories of anti-racism, intercultural communication, coalition building, and systems change, which values reciprocity, reconciliation, and allyship. I have a proven track record of reducing bias and improving outcomes for diverse learners.
My publications have been spotlighted by such organizations and publications as Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) - Learning for Justice, the inaugural website of UC Berkeley's Greater Good, and Zaretta Hammond's book Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain. My guiding framework - The Mindful Reflection Protocol to Reduce Bias in the classroom was published in 2011 in the Council for Exceptional Children's TEACHING Exceptional Children.
